Leaning Into the Breaking Point: Finding Freedom By Losing Control
Today, I want to dive deep into a concept that might feel counterintuitive at first: losing control to gain freedom. It sounds a bit like a paradox, doesn’t it? But trust me, it’s a lesson we all need to learn as we navigate this chaotic yet beautiful journey called life.
Embracing the Breaking Point
Life can often feel overwhelming, like we’re standing at the edge of a cliff with the waves crashing below. In those moments, we might hit what I like to call our breaking point. This isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s an invitation to grow, evolve, and lean into a deeper understanding of ourselves.
Remember that time when you felt like you were juggling too many things at once? Maybe it was work, family, finances, or personal aspirations. The pressure can be unbearable. But here’s the beauty: when we lean into that breaking point, we can release the burdens that we were never meant to carry alone.
Biblical Truth: In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus invites us to come to Him when we’re weary and burdened, promising to give us rest. Isn’t that a relief? We don’t have to carry our worries and anxieties by ourselves. Instead, we can lay them at His feet and find peace.
Losing Control to Gain Freedom
When we feel like we’re losing control, we often panic. But let’s shift our perspective for a moment. What if losing control means gaining freedom? Freedom to be ourselves, to embrace our imperfections, and to trust God’s plan, even when it doesn’t look like we expected.
Let’s take a cue from the life of Paul, who experienced his fair share of trials and tribulations. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, he shares God’s powerful response to his struggles: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Paul learned that in his weakest moments, he found true strength in God’s grace.

Activity: Breaking Free Journal Prompt
To help you lean into your breaking point and explore the freedom that comes from letting go, I encourage you to engage in a reflective journaling activity. Grab your journal, find a quiet space, and ask yourself the following questions:
What areas of my life feel overwhelming right now?
Where do I feel like I’m trying to control everything?
How can I surrender these areas to God?
What would it look like for me to find freedom in these struggles?
Can I identify a time when losing control led to unexpected blessings or growth?
After writing your thoughts, take a moment to pray. Ask God for the strength to let go of control and the wisdom to see the freedom that comes from surrendering your burdens to Him.
Embracing Authenticity
As we learn to lean into our breaking points and embrace the freedom that comes from losing control, let’s also remember the power of authenticity. In our society, we’re often pressured to present a perfect façade, but that’s not what God calls us to be. He wants us to show up as our true selves—flawed, messy, and real.
When we allow ourselves to be vulnerable, we create a space for God’s grace to shine through. And that, my friends, is where true balance lies. It’s not about perfection; it’s about being rooted in faith and allowing that faith to guide us through our challenges.
Final Thoughts
Life is a beautiful mess, and that’s okay! As you navigate your own breaking points, remember that losing control can lead to incredible freedom. Lean into those moments, trust in God’s plan, and embrace the authenticity of your journey. You are not alone; He is walking with you every step of the way.
Lean into your breaking point, knowing that through surrender, you can find a deeper sense of balance and peace in your lives.
